To do that effectively on the internet you need to use a email campaign manager or an email server. Why can’t you do that form your own server? Well… you can, if you have a limited email base of say 100 subscribers to whom you send out email every few days but what if you have subscribers excess of 200-300 and you are sending them emails daily. Chances are that your hosting provider will ban your account so that he can safeguard his IP from being black listed with ISP’s. For this very reason, I prefer sending my marketing email from a dedicated mailing list provider.

If you think of the cost associated with using such services, you will be surprised how cheap they are. For starters, the services are free; provided you have limited emails to send but even if you need that extra bit the services start as low as $8 / month for 500 email subscribers who you can email everyday. I think its worth the money considering your hosting being banned right after your big promotion after your send mails from your own server. This is what nightmares are made of.

Many aspects, including its ease-of-use and extensibility, have made Joomla the most popular Web site software available. Best of all, Joomla is an open source solution that is freely available to everyone.

It is something like WordPress but much more powerful and complex. If WordPress is suited for personal blogs or small scale websites then Joomla would be for larger more complex website.

Most webhost’s offer one click Joomla installation therefore making it very easy for your to get your website up and ready, however getting it to look good is a different ballgame. Out of the box Joomla looks very basic at the user end and you would need some good theme to make it look cool and professional.

Check out ThemeForest, they have Joomla themes starting just $10

Most of us, when we want to start a website automatically think of a dot com domain name but since almost all the good ones are already taken we end up buying a country specific domain name. Have you ever wondered how it affects your search ranking?

I am not to sure about how other search engines handle country specific domains but Google clearly gives priority to country wise specific domains on their country search engines.

Have a look at the graphic below which I have taken from my Google Webmaster Tool page, it clearly shows that Google automatically decided that the target country is India as the domain name is India specific (.in)

This also tells you that if you are starting a website which might have a world wide audience, then you better stick to a .com or a .net

No matter if you are just starting out or have been bogging for while now, reading this would help you a lot. When you post an article, you have to choose a category associated with it (Taxonomy in Expression Engine). Let’s say that you have written an article on Xbox 360 and that you are comparing it with PlayStation 3. I am sure you will have these 3 categories in you blog i.e. Gaming, Xbox, PlayStation. Normally you would go ahead and select all 3 categories for the article but this is where you would be making a mistake.

Always associate one article with one category, this way you can easily avoid duplicating content on your blog which is frowned upon by search engines such a Google. In the above example, the best category to choose would be Gaming.

This poses another question, what happens to people looking for Xbox & PlayStation… they won’t get to see the article because it is not in those categories! This is why you need to use TAGS in your blog. You can have multiple tags per article which makes it different from a category. Tags are keywords from your article which you think would be instantly recognized by visitors on your blog, thus making it very easy for them to find the right content.

Answers" width="254" height="37" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-86" />I have been experimenting with Yahoo Answers and have got very good results from it. Here’s how this can work for you. Suppose you have a blog which is about dating and relationships and you think of yourself as an expert in that field. You can create and account with Y! Answers or use your existing yahoo email to login to create a profile.

While creating a profile you can choose your nic name, which can be anything… even your blog url if it is less than 28 characters. Then just search for questions which people have posted and answer them as you see fit. Make sure you read up on the community guidelines before you start answering so you would know what you can write and what you cannot.

While answering questions, you have the ability to post a url which is used an reference to your answer. Please do not blatantly abuse the system by entering your blog’s url else your yahoo answers account will be suspended.

Be sincere while answering the questions, people will tend to respect you more and thereby getting you more points. Eventually this will drive traffic to your blog from the links you would have created there thus increasing your blog traffic. You can then join some dating affiliate or matrimonial affiliate scheme like shaadi.com and make money from it.

If you running a WordPress blog and using different affiliate programs to make money then I is a good idea to Cloak all the outgoing links. Cloaking is simply hiding the affiliate links so that they cannot be tampered with and your sale is not compromised.

This simplest way to do is use the awesome Link Cloaking Plugin, move your mouse over the link and look at the status bar, you will see how the cloaked links looks like.

The plugin is very simple to Install, the instructions are right there on the blog. The one very useful feature is that when you cloak the link, it automatically adds the nofollow tag so that you keep your link juice intact.

Important Note: If you are using SEO urls, i.e. mod rewrite on your blog, then you will have to go to Settings > Permlink Settings and simply press “Save Changes”. This will update your .htaccess with the Cloaking code. This has to be done everytime you upgrade WordPress.

Favicon (short for favorites icon) as defined by Wikipedia as a website icon, shortcut icon, url icon, or bookmark icon is an icon associated with a particular website or webpage.

You can see the url bar where next to http://thecashcow.in a favicon is displayed.

Favicon helps a blog in many ways, first off it helps in branding the blog. Secondly it separates your blog from other bookmarked websites as your logo is displayed next to your bookmark.

Follow these steps.

Step 1.
Make a 16×16 px logo on Photoshop. Save it in gif, jpg, png or bmp.

Step 2.
Need to convert it to .ico format. For this you can go to DynamicDrive

Step 3.
Upload your favicon.ico to the root directory of your blog. i.e. public_html
Verify it’s there by typing http://mysite.com/favicon.ico in the browser

Step 4.
Login to WordPress admin and go to your theme admin, click Edit theme and add this code to header.php file.

That’s it! You are done.

Note: In IE it may take time for favicon to appear but in FF it will display immediately.

If you are a regular at forums then you would know this already but if you are not I would suggest you to join a couple forums of your blog’s niche and start taking part in discussions there.

Most of the forums let you have a couple signature links added everytime you make a comment, not only will this help pass on some link juice to your blog but also help you rank better on your keywords. Forums these days also let you add RSS feed to your profile. If you are an active participant on forums then you will see many referrals coming your way from these links.

Follow some basic ethics while making signature links at forums.

1. Do not link to under construction pages, or blog which have very little content. Wait till you have about 20-30 good articles and then go for the signature links.
2. Do not make a link with 6-7 different keywords as it will do more harm than good.
3. If you add 2 link, they should be of different domian… It would not be good to add 2 links with different titles but same domain. Search engines are much to smart for that.
